Howdy Boulder Neighbors!

In the current pandemic, you’ve probably noticed how difficult it is to physically distance on narrow sidewalks, how crowded our trails have become, and how much unused public asphalt there is in our neighborhoods. This #streets4people barrier is here to remind drivers that this street is our street and exists for us to use, not for speeding through. Enjoy the extra space near home, make some fun chalk art, and...

Stay HEALTHY out there! ❤️

Why People Streets?

Reducing through traffic on neighborhood streets is intended to support safe physical activity by creating more space for physical distancing for all Boulder residents so that people can more comfortably use these low-traffic streets for physically distant walking, wheelchair rolling, jogging, and biking.

The street is not fully closed, local traffic is welcome to cautiously proceed—keep an eye out for your neighbors!

Why Now?

  • Boulder’s 305 miles of roads can provide room to get fresh air, exercise, and play while providing relief to our Open Space trail systems during our new normal.

  • Boulder’s neighborhoods have narrow or missing sidewalk segments. Those that do have sidewalks do not allow two people to pass within 6 feet safely.

  • With stay-at-home orders, there are fewer cars than ever using our roads and they can easily reroute without losing time.

Where else has this been done?
